Pinewood Rail Rider™ Car Kit
Experts agree that controlled rail riding will produce a much faster car. When your car consistently rubs against the inside rail all the way down the track it will be faster. Straight is always faster than a car that loses energy going side to side touching the rail. It’s important to plan ahead when building a Pinewood Rail Rider™ Car Kit. There are several things you must do to the car body and axles before we ever get to the Rail Rider™ alignment procedures.
Things to consider when choosing. Know your Pack Rules.
- Choose 3 wheel center rail riding car or all 4 wheel touching car. 4 wheel touching car will need to utilize the Ghost 4th Wheel Tuning as seen here. In order to have the fastest Pinewood Rail Rider™ Car Kit, you must construct the car so that one front wheel does not make contact with the track.
- Choose between bent axles, or pre-drilled holes. Hand tuned Rail Rider™ will yield the fastest car. New evidence suggests that pre-drilled rear wheels with straight axles and a handed tuned steering wheel will be the faster build when compared to 3 bent tuned axles.
- Tuning Board Required. Tuning required. The standard arch toward the center rail is about 1″ to the rail over a 4 foot distance. Every car is different. Some require more. However given that the ramp section of most metal tracks is 7 foot in length, if you can get it to deviate to the center about the 6 foot length is more desired. Wood tracks all have different ramp lengths so your ARCH or tuning needs to account for what type of track it will race. Please Youtube Our method or someone else. There are many methods with nearly same results. Choose what best suits you, but you will have to tune.
Our winning car kits come with either precision cut cnc axle slots or precision drilled axle holes drilled with the Goat Boy Drill Station. Kits with axle slots are always fully BSA compliant with all pack rules. Especially relevant are your local pack rules. Please check these rules before purchasing a car body with drilled axle holes.
