Pinewood Derby 4 Groove Speed Axle

One important thing you can do to improve the performance of your pinewood derby car is to reduce the contact surface area between the wheel and the axle.  There is a lot of friction going on between your wheels and axles. Especially relevant is to note that a little effort will go a long way and a lot of effort brings home trophies!  This set of 4 official BSA Pinewood Derby 4 Groove Speed Axle has been machined straight and grooved for friction reduction and the creation of a graphite storage slot.  The heads of the axles have been slightly tapered for friction reduction as well.

• Cut in middle of wheel so less axle rubs on wheel
• Wheel does not contact axle so you have no friction (none, zero!!!) in this area
• Provides a cavity to hold graphite during the race

These are made by Derby Worx® and we resell them.

This axle starts life as an official B.S.A. Pinewood Derby axle. It is C.N.C. machined true and round, Derby Worx then adds 4 grooves (1 behind the axle head and 3 in the bore contact area) to reduce friction and hold graphite then head is back-cut for further friction reduction at the hub face on the wheel. They are semi-polished so the builder can finish it their spec.  We recommend additional polishing for true dominating speed!  Click here for our polishing kit:
