Drill Guide
With the power of 3d printing we mated the two popular pinewood derby tools and came up with the perfect tool to pre-drill axle slots for axles. I promise you will 100% accurately correctly drill your axle slot every single time, perfectly. Made of environmentally friendly PLA plastic, this tool can be used over and over. We have no problems drilling 25+ cars on a single jig Included is a #44 drill bit for perfect axle install. Drills a perfect .086″ diameter hole for your BSA axle every single time! We are the first to market. I am 100% certain others will copy, but just let you know we were the FIRST.
If your slot is not perpendicular to your body, it’s not going to fix that. You will need a NON keyed drill guide such as the Derby Worx Pro Body Tool 2 to fix this error. This simply drills your slots so that you do not bust your axle slots. This is a solution that many desire.
Mini Center of Gravity Mass Balance
Simple solution for replacing the ruler balanced edge. Simply balance the car (with weights, wheels, axles ) mark the location, measured from the rear axle. Adjust location of weight as needed to properly match your race track conditions.
Wheel insertion / removal tool
Simply push in the axles into your pre-drilled axle holes. NO HAMMERS needed! The concave head will properly gap the wheel from the body for those that need to adjust axles for steering purposes. Smaller gap caps are attained by using the tip of the tool as the final gap. Simply place between the hub and body push axle with thumb until snug.
To remove a wheel, place the flat side against the wheel, push all the way up until the hub is centered into the tool. The entire wheel will be supported by the tool. Final step will be to pull the wheel away from the body with the tool.
Wheel mandrel
The Pro-Mandrel is used to hold wheels in a drill or a lathe. User may polish or machine the wheels. When mounting the Pro-Mandrel in a standard drill, drill press, or lathe, fasten the chuck around the wide portion of the shaft. The face of the Pro-Mandrel has a step-down to allow mounting BSA wheels with the spokes facing towards the mandrel. This simplifies polishing the inside edge of the wheel. The Pro-Mandrel screw has a beveled face to ensure that the wheel is centered on the mandrel screw.
Barrette File
By far the best file for the job. This file is perfect to remove the burrs and shape your axle head. 5 1/2 inches in length. With the tapered end, you can profile the head of your axle to the perfect angle. Fine checkering for minimal material removal. Only one cutting side, the rest of the sides are safe meaning they do not cut. No accidental material removal while shaping the head of your axle.
Wet SandPaper
After you have removed the crimps and the burrs, it is time to wet sand your axles polish to a mirror shine using Pinewood Axle SandPaper. Derby Dust wet sandpaper assortment offers 10 different grits needed to get your axles mirror shine: 10000, 7000, 5000, 3000, 2000, 1500, 1000, 800, 600, 400. Wet sand is the key to making those axles have a mirror finish.
***Don’t forget to Seal your axle prep after you wet sand. Leaving them overnight might make them rust! After all, you have polished away the zinc plating. Now you have polished steel. *** There are advanced league sealants out there that are crazy secret recipes. Good ole Lemon Pledge will also do the trick. Spray it down. Let it sit there for about 30 seconds, wipe clean, and it should be good to go.
Pinewood Axle Sand Paper includes:
9×2″ in dimensions. Should do PLENTY of axles.
1 of each grit = 10x different sheets
