Pinewood Axle Polishing Kit

Derby Dust has made available to you the parts we use to make our highly polished axles by offering our Pinewood Axle Polishing Kit.  Everything needed to POLISH axles.  First step to polishing is straightening out your axles.  Please don’t forget this step.  Straighten axles with a Pro Axle Press

Quality tools and supplies to prepare your axles to mirror like finish include:

• Our fine barrette jewelry file is by far the best file for the job. This file is perfect to remove the burrs and shape your axle head prior to polishing.  5 1/2 inches in length. With the tapered end, you can profile the head of your axle to the perfect angle. Fine checkering for minimal material removal. Only one cutting side, Rest sides are safe – meaning they do not cut.  No accidental material removal while shaping the head of your axle.
• After you have removed the crimps and the burrs, it is time to wet sand your axles polish to a mirror shine without leaving marks.  Derby Dust wet sandpaper assortment offers 10 different grits: 10000, 7000, 5000, 3000, 2000, 1500, 1000, 800, 600, 400

Going a Step above the rest for the win

Once your graphite lube has been raced off, there is no lubrication between your axle and wheel bore.  To ensure that you have an advantage, the more friction you can reduce will give you the advantage over the next racer.  Polishing axles to a finer, mirror-like surface will reduce friction.

• Wet sanding can only do so much.  If you need a step up in a competitive pack, this is the next step.  Derby Dust Derby Axle Final Polish brings a mirror shine to your axles.  PWD Experts state that higher polished derby axles race faster. Our axle polish will allow you to create optimized axles for top speeds.  Use Derby Axle Final Polish after wet sanding derby axles.  The super fine 0.25 micron diamond abrasive is in a paste suspension which is applied in a burnishing technique.  Typical application takes 30 seconds per axle.  Please have your axle sealant of choice ready for application after using the final polish.

After final polish, you will need to protect your axles in with a rust preventive of some  if long term storage (greater than 48 hours) is intended before racing.  Rust inhibitor paper can be used.  Any metal sealant intended to prevent corrosion such as wd-40 can be used.  Or you can seal with a specialized metal sealant that contains rust preventive properties.  Always wipe clean with alcohol prior to racing.

Final assemble  prior to racing, wipe axles with a silicone wax wipe for graphite enhancer.  Yes it’s Lemon Pledge…  The best for graphite.  Your axle is ready for graphite racing!
