Here are some helpful tips in preparing your car for the big race among your fellow Cub Scouts:
1. Polish all of the axles
This is a great project for a Cub Scout and his helper. While one person holds the hand drill the other person should use a piece of damp emery paper to polish the axle. After this initial phase. you could even use other materials such as steel wool to polish the car’s axles to a mirror finish.
After doing you polishing, it’s important to test the smoothness of the axle. First, rub your fingernail up and down the shaft to test for smoothness.
Next, insert a wheel and then spin the wheel. The axle is ready if it spins easily and then gradually slows down.
If that doesn’t happen, then you will need to do some further smoothing. Finishing tip is using a diamond or metal polish to get that shiny mirror finish.
